Even owning a high value vehicle such as Range Rover Vogue Mk4 means nothing when its engine fails and turns in to a non runner. This is where Engine Rebuild comes into play. We supply, rebuild, recondition, and fit engines for the fourth generation Range Rover L405. We work with petrol, diesel and selected hybrid powertrains, with compatibility checked before any engine is supplied or fitted. No matter if you have petrol, diesel or hybrid powertrain under the hood, our experienced and well trained technicians are well equipped to check its compatibility and either supply or fit the engine by factory specs.
The engine replacement process for Range Rover is easy when it’s done by those who know what they are doing. We start with diagnostics. Engine noise, low oil pressure, overheating, smoke, coolant loss or a restricted performance warning does not always mean the complete engine has failed. According to the diagnostic, we decide if it requires repair, rebuild or replacement only after the cause is identified. If the replacement is necessary, we recommend used, rebuilt or reconditioned Range rover Vogue Mk4 engines to suit the vehicle and budget.
All work is handled through our in-house engine facility. We can also arrange vehicle recovery, supply engines to garages and provide a complete supply-and-fit service. Warranty options are available, and a professionally rebuilt or reconditioned unit can cost considerably less than buying a new crate engine.
The L405 Range Rover was offered with several powertrains during its production life. Early UK models included the 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel, 4.4-litre SDV8 diesel and 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol. Later vehicles added the P400e plug-in hybrid and 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines. Exact engine availability varies by model year and specification.
Before quoting, we use the registration, VIN and engine details to confirm the correct unit. This matters because engines with the same capacity can use different ancillaries, emissions equipment, electronics and calibration. A correct match reduces delays and prevents expensive compatibility problems during fitting.
While Range Rover Mk4 harbors super reliable engines under its hood, they are not immune to problems and some of them are common among them. Some failures begin with lubrication, cooling or emissions faults and become major internal damage when the vehicle continues to be driven. We diagnose the root cause before deciding whether individual repair work or a complete engine rebuild or replacement is the better option.
| Common Problem | Common Warning Signs or Causes | Our Engine Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Crankshaft or bearing failure | Knocking, low oil pressure, bearing wear or lubrication problems | Internal inspection followed by engine rebuild or replacement where damage is severe |
| Timing belt failure | Age, mileage, worn tensioners or overdue belt replacement on applicable diesel engines | Timing system repair or full engine rebuild if internal contact has occurred |
| Turbocharger failure | Smoke, loss of power, oil contamination or restricted oil supply | Turbo and lubrication system inspection with engine repair or replacement where required |
| DPF or EGR problems | Short journeys, interrupted regeneration and carbon build-up | Full diagnostics, emissions-system repair and checks for related engine damage |
| Coolant loss | Water pump, pipe, hose or cooling-system leaks | Pressure testing, leak repair and engine assessment for overheating damage |
| Engine overheating | Coolant loss, poor circulation or cooling-system failure | Cooling repair followed by cylinder head and engine condition checks |
| Timing chain noise | Worn guides, tensioners or chain components on applicable engines | Timing-system replacement or engine rebuild if the timing has jumped |
| Low compression or misfire | Valve, piston, cylinder, head-gasket or bore damage | Compression testing followed by repair, reconditioning or engine replacement |
You must understand the difference before making the decision about different replacement options. If you are on a tight budget then go for a used Range Rover Vogue Mk4 engine. The unit comes from another vehicle and is checked for identity, condition and compatibility before supply. It can be suitable when fast availability and lower initial cost are the main priorities, although its previous internal wear cannot be compared with a fully stripped reconditioned unit.
A reconditioned engine receives a much deeper level of work. The engine is dismantled, cleaned and inspected, with worn or damaged components repaired, machined or replaced as required. Critical areas such as the crankshaft, bearings, pistons, cylinder bores, cylinder heads, seals and timing components are assessed before final assembly. The finished unit is checked before installation.
We can also rebuild the engine already fitted to your Range Rover Vogue Mk4 when the main castings and core components remain serviceable. Keeping the original engine can be a practical option, especially when the fault is repairable and the unit has not suffered severe block or crankshaft damage.
Once you bring your vehicle to our facility, we ensure you do nothing but take your vehicle back on the road completely fixed. We diagnose the vehicle, verify the engine specification, remove the failed unit, prepare the replacement engine and transfer serviceable ancillaries where appropriate. The replacement is then installed, fluids and filters are renewed as required, and the vehicle is tested before handover.
Customers can choose supply only or supply and fit. We can deliver an engine to a garage, arrange recovery of a non-running Range Rover or complete the work at our own facility. If extra damage is found after strip-down, we explain what has been identified before additional work is carried out.
Every quotation depends on the exact engine, condition of the existing unit, parts required and whether turbos, injectors, cooling components or other ancillaries need attention. Engine Rebuild focuses on the correct repair rather than replacing parts unnecessarily. Contact us with the registration or VIN for a compatibility check and quotation for a Range Rover Vogue Mk4 engine.
