A Range Rover Sport SVR needs the correct 5.0 litre supercharged V8 petrol engine. An engine may look suitable but still have different parts, fittings or controls. Buying by engine size alone can cause fitting problems and extra costs. Engine Rebuild checks your registration number before offering an engine. This helps us identify a unit that matches your SVR.
We sell used and reconditioned Range Rover SVR engines. You can order an engine for delivery to your garage or book our supply and fit complete engine service. We also rebuild original SVR engines when the main castings and internal parts can be restored. If the old engine cannot be saved, we can fit a suitable replacement at our workshop. Vehicle collection is available for customers who cannot bring the car to us.
Our first step is to understand why the engine failed. A coolant leak, low oil pressure or timing fault can damage more than one part. Fitting another engine without finding the cause may put the replacement unit at risk. We check the engine, explain the available options and quote for the work needed. Used engines are tested before sale. Reconditioned engines are stripped and rebuilt with OEM quality parts where required. Engine services include after sales support and up to 12 months’ warranty, subject to the written terms.

Problem or warning sign |
Likely cause |
Expert solution |
|---|---|---|
|
Coolant level keeps falling |
The water pump, thermostat housing or crossover pipe may leak. Low coolant can overheat the V8. |
We inspect the damage and advise whether the engine can be rebuilt or needs replacement. |
|
Temperature warning or overheating |
Coolant loss or poor circulation can warp the cylinder heads and damage the head gaskets or block. |
We check the heads and block. Usable parts are machined during a rebuild; unsafe units are replaced. |
|
Rattle for a few seconds after starting |
Timing chain guides or tensioners may be worn. The chain can move out of position and affect valve timing. |
We inspect the timing system. A suitable rebuild includes a new timing kit and checks for valve or piston damage. |
|
Heavy knock from the lower engine |
Low oil pressure or worn bearings can mark the crankshaft and damage the connecting rods. |
We measure the crankshaft and bearing areas, then rebuild a usable engine or fit a replacement. |
|
Blue smoke and regular oil top ups |
Worn piston rings, cylinder bores or valve seals may allow oil to burn inside the cylinders. |
We strip and measure the engine. Reconditioning can include machining, new rings, bearings, seals and gaskets. |
|
Oil under the car or around the engine |
Cam cover gaskets, timing cover seals or crank seals can leak and lower the oil level. |
We check oil pressure and internal wear before recommending a rebuild or replacement engine. |
|
Rough idle, misfire or weak acceleration |
An injector fault, low compression, damaged valve or timing error can stop a cylinder working correctly. |
We diagnose the cause. Internal compression or timing damage can be dealt with through rebuilding or replacement. |
|
Supercharger noise and reduced power |
A worn coupler, bearing or drive can cause a rattle or poor boost. Related heat or coolant faults may damage the engine. |
We check the engine for internal damage and give the correct rebuild or replacement option. |
A used Range Rover SVR engine is often the simplest answer when cost and speed matter. The unit comes from another vehicle and has not had a complete internal rebuild. For this reason, its mileage, history and test results are important. We source low mileage engines and check compression, pressure, oil circulation and general condition. We tell you what is available and confirm the warranty terms before the order is agreed.
A reconditioned SVR engine is different. Our technicians take it apart so the main components can be cleaned and measured. The block, cylinder heads, crankshaft and bores are checked against the required tolerances. Worn items are changed with OEM quality components. Work may include machining and fitting new bearings, piston rings, gaskets, seals and timing parts. The engine is then assembled and checked. This route costs more than a used unit but gives closer control over the condition of its internal parts.
A rebuild starts with dismantling the failed engine. This shows whether overheating, poor lubrication, timing failure or internal wear caused the damage. We clean the parts and check which items remain safe to use. A serviceable crankshaft can be polished. Cylinder heads and bores can be machined when needed. Worn bearings, rings, gaskets, seals and timing parts are replaced during assembly. Rebuilding is only offered when the main engine parts provide a sound base for the work.
Replacement is the practical route when the block is cracked, or repair would not give a reliable result. We can remove the failed unit and fit a checked used or fully reconditioned engine. The installation is completed with specialist tools at our workshop. After fitting, we check oil pressure, coolant operation and the vehicle’s electronic systems. The engine is tested before the SVR is returned. Keeping the engine work and fitting in one workshop also gives you one team responsible for the complete job.
Our supply only service is for customers who already have a garage ready to install the engine. We package the unit for transport and arrange delivery to a chosen UK address. Give us the vehicle registration, delivery postcode and details of the engine fault. We can then check compatibility, current stock and the right engine condition for your budget. Your fitter should inspect the vehicle and correct the original cause of failure before installing the replacement.
Choose the full service if you want Engine Rebuild to manage the job. We can arrange collection, inspect the failed engine, agree the rebuild or replacement route and complete the fitting in house. Your written quote will state the engine option and the work included. Warranty cover is available for up to 12 months, depending on the supplied engine and service terms. Send your registration number to receive a quote for an SVR engine, delivery, rebuilding, or complete supply and fitting.
